PN raises concern about quality of fruit and vegetables distributed in schools

Saturday, 26 May 2018, 10:11 Last update: about 7 years ago

School children should be given fresh fruit and vegetables, PN Secretary General Clyde Puli has said in a statement, mentioning that parents have been concerned about the quality of food their children are being given at school.

The scheme which saw fruit and vegetables distributed freely in schools was introduced by the PN government, he said, in order to teach children the importance of fruit and vegetables to form part of a good diet.

If the fruit and vegetables are not fresh, he said, the educational aim of this service  fails.

"Due to administrative shortcomings, this scheme had stopped for a number of months," he said, mentioning that the issue was also raised in a European Parliamentary Question.
