"Industry, Foreign Direct Investment and Economic Development: the case of Malta 1911-1970" was the theme of a public lecture by economic sociologist Dr Mario Brincat delivered at the Central Bank of Malta on Tuesday 29 May.

The lecture drew on material from Dr Brincat's latest publication 'Birth of the Malta Development Corporation: A Landmark in the Islands' Economic Development', to illustrate the crucial early years of Malta's FDI-based, export-led development model.

Dr Brincat's delivery was the first in this series of public lectures being hosted by the Bank in the area of the economic and social history of Malta by prominent Maltese scholars and researchers.

Dr Brincat is adviser on economic development issues to the Chairman of Malta Enterprise.

The lecture was introduced by Dr Mario Vella, Governor of the Central Bank of Malta.
