Local international basketball referee Bernard Vassallo has been handed a prominent FIBA European Championship assignment as a neutral referee this Summer.

In fact, Vassallo has been one of the nominated referees for the Under 20 FIBA Women European Championships to be played in Sopron, Hungary between the 7th and 15th of July.

This is not the only noteworthy appointment for Vassallo as he will have a busy Summer after he was also designated as a neutral referee both for the Under 18 Men Division B FIBA European Championships to be played in Skopje, Macedonia between July 27th and August 5th as well as for the Under 16 FIBA Men European Championships which are to be played between the 9th and 18th of August in Sarajevo, Bosnia.

The two local FIBA international referees, Vassallo and Gordon Barbara, were also assigned by FIBA to be accompanying referees during Malta's ventures at different European championships this Summer.

Barbara will accompany the national men squad and the Malta under 16 boys' team in San Marino during the FIBA Championship for Small Countries between the 26th June and 1st July which will be immediately followed by the FIBA Under 16 Division C Championships to be played from July 3rd to July 11th. Gordon Barbara will then travel to Kosovo to accompany the Malta under 18 team during the FIBA Under 18 Division C Championships between July 22nd and 30th.

From his end, Bernard Vassallo will be travelling to Ireland as Malta's accompanying referee during the FIBA Women Championship for Small Countries to be held in Cork between June 26th and July 1st.
