A 72-year-old man from San Gwann was hospitalized on Monday afternoon after he was hit by a police car.

The driver, a police constable stationed at the San Gwann station, did not realize that he had hit someone and kept going, the police said in a statement.

The case took place at 17.30 in Triq Felic Borg. The constable was driving a police Fiat Ducato van.

A medical team assisted the victim, who was later taken to Mater Dei Hospital.

He suffered grievous injuries.

Police investigations are ongoing.
