Flimkien għal Ambjent Aħjar’ have created a video documentary entitled Lest We Forget, to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the Santa Marija Convoy in 2017. This project was produced through financing acquired from the Creative Communities Fund within Arts Council Malta. The documentary renews the collective memory of members from the Three Cities community who lived through this historic event, who were also interviewed by students from St Margaret College.

“Through the years, our culture and history have moulded our identity. This project has cultivated the importance of intergenerational dialogue to ensure that important collective memory is not lost in time especially since this event forms part of a significant era of our recent history which shaped the current and future generations”, said Minister for Justice, Culture and Local Government Owen Bonnici during its launch.

This documentary has created an intergenerational exchange focusing on the daily life and hardships endured during this time leading up to the convoy’s arrival, a significant aspect of our Second World War history, and focuses on the work, clothing, food, social life, and ideals during this particular period.

This project has shed new light on this historic event for younger generations. The information shared during these interviews provides a different angle compared to what we are accustomed to and focuses on first-hand experiences and memories of the time.
