Appreciation

Sunday, 10 June 2018, 08:12 Last update: about 7 years ago

The news that Fr Arthur has left us was deeply saddening.

This Jesuit priest was a symbol of honesty, humility and goodness but above all, he had a profound faith in Christ and Our Lady.

The first time I met him was during the scholastic year 1956/57 when he used to teach me English in Form II at St. Aloysius College - Birkirkara. He immediately impressed me with his enthusiasm of imparting the language and of taking care of the welfare of thirty students in the class.

Fr. Arthur kept abreast of the faith by attending various courses in Malta, England, Italy and the U.S.A to improve his ability in giving only the best to the community.

He was a marriage healer, very successful in bringing the spouses together again, to put it explicitly a marriage saver.

This Jesuit priest spent many years with the University Chaplaincy, in the service of students, staff and lecturers.

Some time ago, he started celebrating the 8.15am Mass at the Sghajtar chapel in Naxxar.

He also conducted retreats for the clergy and many of the faithful sought his wise advice in guidance and counselling.

Fr. Arthur's passing away is a great loss for us and the Society of Jesus but he is undoubtedly the Lord's gain in His heavenly kingdom.

May he rest in peace!
