Prime Minister Joseph Muscat on Monday said that if his Facebook profile was part of any ‘hate groups’ it was added without consent and that membership in such groups was not done deliberately.
He was replying to a Parliamentary Question by PN MP Simon Busuttil, who asked whether the PM had recently exited from any ‘hate groups’ on social media.
Muscat said he had one official verified Facebook page and one profile. The page was not part of any such groups, he said, adding that profiles could be added to certain groups without the owner’s consent or knowledge.
The PM did not actually say whether the profile was part of any of these ‘hate groups’ or whether it had been taken out from any such group.
Recent media reports revealed that many top government and Labour officials were part of these Facebook groups, which are often used to ridicule or insult Opposition politicians or government critics.
