Parliamentary Secretary for Financial Services, Digital Economy and Innovation Silvio Schembri has met representatives from several companies operating in the blockchain sector during meetings in New York.

"I am pleased to announce that, following these meetings, in the coming days representatives from these companies will be visiting Malta to set up offices and begin operating from Malta", he said.

During his visit, Schembri attended the 38th International Telecommunications Satellite Organisation (ITSO) Assembly of Parties in Washington DC.

"Malta's presence at this conference shows this government's commitment to strengthening the telecommunications sector, which bolsters the growth of our digital economy as a main contributor to Malta's economic growth. During this conference, a vote was taken to elect the new members to the assembly's committees. Being part of this voting positions Malta as a vigorous participant in the telecommunications sector", said Silvio Schembri.

ITSO is an inter-governmental organisation that provides public telecommunications services, including voice data and video, on a global and non-discriminatory basis. It currently has 149 members, including Malta.

Its role is to ensure adherence to the core principles for the provision of international public telecommunications services with high reliability and quality and to promote international public telecommunications services to meet the needs of the information and communication society.

The Assembly of Parties is the governing body of the organisation and meets every two years.
