Malta Enterprise said that it gave the European Commission all necessary documentation with regard to Crane Currency.

It was referring to the article Brussels confirms it is ‘actively investigating’ legality of Schembri-catalysed Crane Currency deal”, published in The Malta Independent on Sunday.

“Crane Currency was granted assistance in terms of the applicable schemes under the Business Promotion Act (Chapter 325 of the Laws of Malta) and the Business Promotion Regulations,” Malta Enterprise said.

“The Business Promotion Act, with its Regulations, was approved by the Commission as existing aid at the time of Malta’s accession to the European Union.  The aid granted to Crane was notified to the State Aid Monitoring Board as per normal practice.

“Malta Enterprise has provided all the necessary documentation and information that the Commission has asked for in two separate requests for information dated 23rd August 2017 and 5th March 2018.  This information was given to Mr Mick Van Der Wee at DG Competition at the European Commission.”

Malta Enterprise’s statement was received from the Economy Ministry.
