Fort Park in Xghajra set to receive facelift

Monday, 25 June 2018, 10:35 Last update: about 7 years ago

Fort Park in Xghajra is set to receive an uplift, as fresh plans have been submitted to the Planning Authority to rehabilitate the park, using soft landscaping, the planting of new trees, and fizing up the rubble wall.

Fort Park is located on Triq il- Fortizza tal- Grazzja, Triq Karmelo Ritchie, Xghajra, Malta.

Some of the changes include the addition of more benches, the planting of new trees, and parts of the park being landscaped using bark and sand/gravel, as well as some paving slabs being placed

The application description indicates that the project is EU funded.

Back in 2014, this newsroom had reported on the dilapidated state of the park, and residents in the area recently said that the situation had not yet fully been solved.

Back in 2014, residents said that a thin wire fence which lined the moat on one side, however is not present along the rest of the fort, creating a dangerous situation where passers-by can slip and fall into the moat. Aside from this, waste including glass bottles, plastics and other materials had been found dumped in various areas around the park back in 2014.

This renovation will hopefully prevent such issues from occurring again.
