Konrad Mizzi, Keith Schembri and, of course, Panama

Monday, 25 June 2018, 07:29 Last update: about 7 years ago

Minister Konrad Mizzi and OPM chief of staff Keith Schembri must have rued the day that Panama made it to the World Cup for the first time in history. Not now, they must have thought. They could have waited another four years, maybe the scandal would have died down by then.

As you all know, the troubled duo admitted to having opened two companies in Panama, and no day passes without them being reminded of it.

And so, having Panama in the World Cup added to the constant reminders – what perhaps made it worse is that Panama were drawn in the same group as England, a nation that has great support in Malta.

Yesterday was the day that Panama and England met, and the jokes about Panama fielding Mizzi and Schembri made the rounds all over Malta.

Needless to say, the more creative ones came up with some photoshopped images of the two in Panama shirts or supporting the country that brought them so much unwanted popularity.

We have collected a few and are sharing them with you.
