A woman died this morning after she was hit by a car in Xewkija, the police said,

The accident happened in Hamrija Street at 6.30am.

The 78-year-old woman, who lives in Xewkija, was hit by a car driven by a 25-year-old woman, also of Xewkija.

She was taken to Gozo Hospital where she died some time later, the police said.

Magistrate Joanne Vella Cuschieri is conducting inquiry.

The woman is the 13^th road victim of the year.
