A planning application has been filed to construct a supermarket on the corner of Mdina Road and Attard Road, Zebbug, on the location of the former SMW Cortis building.

The project would see a new Lidl supermarket constructed on ODZ land, partly in an area of containment, which allows for industrial development. The site, is just adjacent to the Grade 1 scheduled windmill known as il-Mithna ta' Srina

The plans indicate that the current site houses a showroom and a factory, which will be demolished. The total site area, according to the plans, is 13,550 sqm.

The site itself will be paved, making room for parking spaces, as well as the entrance to the underground parking area. In all, the ground floor level of the site will have around 140 parking spaces, with an additional 75 or so below ground level.

The plans also show that a retail space, showroom, offices and workshops would also be located below ground level.

The roof level will be covered by solar panels, according to the plans.
