A total of 543 results for SEC vocational subjects were registered in 2018, an outstanding increase from the 92 in 2017, the Education Ministry reported this evening.

Of these, 78.5% were awarded Grades 1-5. This result shows that the SEC vocational subjects have been well-received by students and emphasises further the need for the vocational and applied pathways in the education system.

This year there were 5,145 candidates who registered for the SEC examinations, 3,436 of which were born in 2002.  This means that 90.3% of the 2002 cohort applied for SEC examinations, equal to that of 2017 and the highest in the history of SEC examinations.

The percentage of candidates being awarded Grades 1 and 2 has generally increased in five of the six SEC subjects which are Mathematics, English Language, Maltese, Physics, and English Literature, over the past five years.

Furthermore, the EU-funded Youth Guarantee Project will once again launch the free SEC Preventive Classes summer initiative for students who will be sitting for their Biology, English, Maltese, Mathematics and Physics resits in September.

The classes will be an intensive programme running for five weeks; from the end of July until the end of August. Students who got a 6, 7, U or were marked absent in the five core subjects mentioned above, will be entitled to these classes in both Malta and Gozo.
