A Portuguese man died this afternoon after he drowned at Blue Lagoon in Comino, the police said.

The 41-year-old found himself in difficulty while swimming in this popular bay.

He was lifted ashore and given first aid assistance by the Emergency Response and Rescue Corps and later transported to the Gozo General Hospital, where he died.

Magistrate Paul Coppini is holding an inquiry.
