Partit Demokratiku said it will be writing to the Public Accounts Committee to ask the Auditor General to investigate the awarding of this contract and the process of how the extension of St Vincent de Paul home for the elderly was also included with the kitchen contract.
Partit Demokratiku demands that the public be given the following information forthwith:
• Was this project serviced through Projects Malta where civil service protocols are not followed?
• What will the net gain for the country be over the period of the contract?
• Will the consortium benefit from the management of the new facilities and the provision of services on the site?
• Which construction company/consortium has been contracted to build the facility?
• Who will own the new facilities until the end of the 10-year contract – the government, or the private consortium?
The contract has been awarded to companies partly owned by the db Group, PD said.
Partit Demokratiku is of the opinion that unless a full, unredacted copy of the contract is published, based on past experience, it will be very difficult for the public to feel satisfied that all clauses within it conform to best practices, good governance and the real interests of the tax-paying public.
