Thursday, 19 July 2018, 09:15 Last update: about 7 years ago

300,000 customers registered for a Tallinja Card within the first three years since the launch of the new payment system. These customers are benefitting from reduced fares when using their Tallinja Card on the public transport network operated by Malta Public Transport.

More than a million passengers travel by bus every week, with more than 700,000 customers paying with a personalised Tallinja Card. The Tallinja Card introduced an innovative concept to Malta, making travelling easier as customers not only pay reduced fares compared to cash tickets bought on board the bus, but also benefit from daily, weekly and monthly capping systems according to the type of their Tallinja Card.

Topping up Tallinja Cards is easy, with different methods available to suit different customers. Customers may also set up an Auto Top-Up function on their Tallinja Card in order to ensure that they never run out of credit.

As from 2017, Tallinja Card holders could also pay for the Valletta Ferry Service, an innovative concept in multimodality, where two private operators work together to provide a public transport service characterised by more than one mode of transportation.

Furthermore, customers benefit from a reduced fare on the ferry when paying with their Tallinja Card instead of when paying in cash. To date, more than 50,000 people have paid with their Tallinja Card when using the ferry.
