Silvio Scerri, the former Chief of Staff of former Minister Manuel Mallia, and Ronnie Pellegrini have been appointed to leading roles within Transport Malta, leaked emails provided to The Malta Independent show.

Scerri who was removed from his post as Mallia’s Chief of Staff following his handling of a shooting incident with Mallia’s driver in December 2014, has been made the Senior Chief Officer of the Malta National Electromobility Platform (MNEP) Directorate and the Enforcement Directorate within Transport Malta; while Pellegrini has been given the position of ‘Advisor to the Chairman's Office’, on what is believed to be a part-time basis.

Pellegrini, who was a chief canvasser for former minister Lorry Sant, is also currently employed as a full-time advisor to Justice Minister Owen Bonnici. He previously served as the Chief of Staff to Minister Helena Dalli, at the Ministry for Social Dialogue, Consumer Affairs, and Civil Liberties, up until her highly unsuccessful deputy leadership contest.

Senior delegates of the Labour Party recently told The Sunday Times of Malta that Pellegrini  “is not very well liked by a lot of the delegates as he is seen as part of the old guard which did a lot of harm to Labour in the late 1970s and 1980s when our party was in a real pitiful situation.”

The email (photo below) also shows that Newly appointed chairman of Transport Malta, Joseph Bugeja, will also become CEO; while Kevin Farrugia was appointed the Deputy CEO.

Pierre Montebello was appointed the Chief Officer for LTD and ICT.
