It was love at first sight for Michelle and David. Michelle saw David for the first time and knew that something was different about this guy. They had the following four days together. However, they were separated soon afterwards because David had to leave for six months, working at sea. After that Michelle moved on, but destiny brought them back together when they met during St George’s feast; and they have been together ever since.
David proposed to Michelle at the same restaurant where they had their first date together. He went down on his knees and asked her to marry him. She quickly said yes, because she was very shy about making a scene in front of all the people; so was David but he wanted to make the proposal a memorable one.
They got married on June, 25 in 2017, they wanted a morning wedding and a date close to Michelle’s village feast. They held their wedding ceremony at St Peter & St Paul’s Basilica in Nadur, Gozo, it was always a dream for the bride to be married there, followed by a reception in the gardens of Ta’ Frenċ, in Marsalforn.
The couple opted to not have a particular theme for their wedding but simply to add discrete, delicate touches. They used three colours white, shades of blue and gold combined with some Italian touches here and there, since Michelle teaches Italian. They even gave small bottles of Limoncello, the traditional Italian drink, from Gozo Cottage as souvenirs. These were engraved with the same wedding logo they had used on their invitations, which were designed by their friend Derek Fenech. Very fine nautical touches were also included, since David is a sea captain. All decorations and fresh flowers were from Floreal. White flowers only were used to decorate the church, to enhance its historic beauty, while shades of blue and white flowers with white and gold vases and scattered white petals were placed at the reception venue.
Michelle wore a beautiful, classical A-line dress, in brocade, with a couple of sweet bows on the back. It fitted the bride, and the whole look, perfectly. The dress was chosen after many visits to different vendors but Michelle knew it was the one when she first saw it at Ivory & Co. Her mum could not stop crying when she saw her daughter in the dress for the first time as it was very similar to the one she got married in.
David’s wedding attire was from Natasha His and Hers. He wore a classical yet very fashionable blue suit which completed the bride’s look.
Rightly so they chose an Italian song for their first dance, A Te by Jovanotti, which is the most romantic song according to Michelle, and afterwards danced to Quando Quando by Bublè. Live music from The Travellers was played throughout the reception, followed by their Deejay friends Wobis Duo, when they danced together with all their guests till late in the evening.
They were both so very happy with the outcome of their special day, from the endearing priest’s sermon and the sacred youth choir during Mass, to the groom’s friends’ dancing style. It was just perfect and they will cherish the day forever. Michele and David also wanted to thank their wedding organiser, Carmelino Refalo, because their dream wedding was possible thanks to his highly qualified service.
For their honeymoon, the couple went to New York, Canada and Orlando. They were also meant to go to the Bahamas but had to cancel and return to New York because of the hurricane Irma.
