Thursday, 26 July 2018, 16:30 Last update: about 7 years ago

Mr Gordon Mifsud has been elected as the new Hockey Association Malta President at the recently held Annual General Meeting. He succeeds Mr Chris Busuttil Leaver who held the post for the past 18 years.

Mr. Mifsud is a former hockey player himself and is still actively playing in the veterans' team. He was also previously involved in sports management having served on the committee of the Malta Squash Rackets Association some years back.

As a seasoned person in the corporate world he brings extensive experience to the strategic management of the Association.

In his acceptance address he outlined his vision for taking hockey in Malta to a new phase of development. He expressed his intention of modernising the approach to evolving hockey in Malta. He stressed the need to strengthen the existing clubs, expand and further develop the youth base and provide more experiences for all age groups right up to the veteran level.

Emphasis will be made to increasing the profile of the Malta Hockey both on a local as well as an international basis. "Sport should help develop various life skills and should contribute to the physical and mental wellbeing of all, young and not so young," he said.

The other members of the Executive Committee are Mr David T Agius (General Secretary) Mr Shawn Falzon (Treasurer), Mr Henry Cachia, Mr Gaston Degiovanni and Mr Chris Attard.
