Arne is German and Caroline is Maltese and they met while they were both studying in Sheffield; a friend introduced them over celebratory drinks. Arne was in Sheffield for a couple of months on a medical internship, while Caroline was finishing her PhD studies, her only thought was to come back to Malta after finishing her studies. “A month after Arne left Sheffield, he came back to visit; and that is when I realised things were serious,” explained Caroline.
They decided to get married after a year together. Both agreed that it was the right thing to do and opted for a civil wedding in Germany, which they celebrated with close family, followed by a Maltese summer wedding later on. When they were planning their wedding celebrations in Malta, they wanted a venue with a sea view, as it was one of the main reasons to get married in Malta. In fact, they also included some lovely marine decorations from Balistuff, to enhance the sea and beach theme.
Caroline and Arne got married at the Madonna tal-Ħlas Sanctuary, in Qormi as they wanted a small and intimate ceremony. The Mass was in three different languages as they had guests from different countries. It was still decorated for the Village feast which was just a week before the wedding and complimented by lovely flower arrangements by Romano Cassar Florists. The church was one of the main highlights of their wedding day, as they shared so many emotions together with their family and friends, especially having Caroline’s sister singing Ave Maria while the bride walked down the aisle, she was also the maid of honour. Both their sisters were singing during the ceremony, accompanied by the harpist Jacob Portelli. After the ceremony, they shared a couple of drinks and some pastizzi with their guests, in front of the church, which was also pretty amazing surrounded by the stunning views of the fields around the chapel.
Caroline walked down the aisle wearing an ivory, mermaid style dress with an off-the-shoulder neckline, crystal beaded sleeves and back, embroidered medallions and a long trail, from Alamango. Arne wore a gorgeous, classical suit, from Bortex.
After the wedding ceremony, they held a sit-down meal at the Radisson Blu Golden Sands, in Golden Bay. It was the perfect venue for the sea view they desired and a delicious buffet. “We were able to have the meal outside while enjoying the stunning view during sunset from the Ballroom Terrace, and then moving into the Ballroom for the after party, where we had the Big Band Brothers playing and a sweet table by Rokky Benitos and an Ice-cream cart by Sotto Zero and a cocktail bar by Coctel Cantineros, for the guests to enjoy after dinner”, Caroline explained in detail.
It was definitely a wonderful event for both Caroline and Arne. They said that it is a nice traditional way to start their new journey together.
For their honeymoon, they went for a few days to the south of France, where they stayed in Eze and took a couple of boat trips, one to St Tropez. “We enjoyed the lovely, quiet beaches and the wine and cheese. It was easy to manage itand we booked everything ourselves”, Caroline and Arne recalled.
They also wanted to thank Caroline’s sister and mum as they pretty much managed all the wedding planning themselves since the couple were not living in Malta at the time.
