Monday, 6 August 2018, 13:24 Last update: about 7 years ago

Anthony Gatt has been appointed as the new Director of Caritas Malta, the Curia has announced.

Gatt, who was born in 1976 in Valletta, is a psychologist who has focused on the field of social assistance since 1999.

Gatt is a former volunteer at Caritas and has worked there for the past three years. He previously worked in the drug rehabilitation field at Sedqa.

Since 2004, he has been a visiting lecturer at the University of Malta in the field of counselling, psychotherapy, humanist psychology and the psychology of organizations. Over the years he has served on several boards of both Church and State, including the professional psychologists' board and prison board for drug rehabilitation. For several years he also served in the council of the Malta Chamber of Psychologists.

Gatt is replacing Leonid McKay, who has been appointed CEO of the Housing Authority after the departure of Stephen McCarthy.

McKay worked at Caritas for the last 12 years where he held the role of director since 2014.

Parliamentary Secretary for Social Accommodation Roderick Galdes said McKay will be “the person who will take the Housing Authority forward”.

“This authority must be brought up to date, remain observant for the public’s needs, and come up with innovative solutions that will make a difference. I trust that Leonid has the experience, vision, and determination to make this move a success.”

Leonid McKay graduated in sociology and social policy at Master’s level of education. He will take control of the Housing Authority in a few weeks.
