There has been an explosion at a residence in Hal Qormi, the Police have confirmed. 

Civil Protection and Ambulance services are at site on Dun Gwann Cilia Street. 

It is as yet unknown if persons were injured in the blast. 

According to state media, a gas leak from a cylinder was the cause of the explosion.  The police, speaking with The Malta Independent, said there was nobody inside at the time and that there are no injuries.
