The son of an elderly mother who was mugged by an unknown perpetrator and had her purse containing €8 stolen has pleaded on Facebook for a better police presence.

“Last night my 80 year old mum was savagely mugged some 150 metres away from her summer residence in Qawra,” Pierre Cassar, who is also the director, marketing and communications, of the Universit of Malta, wrote on Facebook.

“We, but especially our elders, deserve to live safely in a country we call home,” he wrote.
