A post on popular Facebook group ‘RUBS PUPPY LOVE’ has claimed that cat was allegedly beaten to death in front of patrons of a restaurant.

According to the post, the beating allegedly took place in Ghajn Tuffieha. An elderly woman seemingly gestured to a man who took it upon himself to scare the cat away from the outlet.

The cat is said to have run out a back door entrance, where the man proceeded to strike the cat repeatedly until it died.

Patrons were visibly outraged by this, and when they reported the actions of this man to an employee, all they were greeted with was a shrug of the shoulders. The manager is said to have covered the feline with a towel.

Shortly after the two elderly individuals were seen leaving the scene in car.

When contacted by this newspaper, a spokesperson for the government stated that the Police and Animal Welfare are aware of the situations and are co-ordinating in the investigations.

The restaurant where the incident took place, The Apple's Eye, issued a statement on their Facebook page on Monday afternoon to address the matter.  The statement can be found in full, below.
