The Ambassador of Malta to the United States, Pierre Clive Agius, led the wreath laying ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Arlington Cemetery.
The ceremony was held on 15 August at 11am. This was the first time for an Ambassador of Malta to lay a wreath at this important military cemetery.
Ambassador Agius chose the date specifically to commemorate the arrival of the Convoy of Santa Maria and the 75th Anniversary of Operation Husky which was partly launched from Malta by General Eisenhawer and which led to the liberation of Italy during WWII.
Ambassador Agius is terminating his mission in Washington DC shortly.
