Police have found that a man, who already stands accused of the kidnapping and injuring of another person, was hosting other people within a garage.

On Sunday, a court heard how several individuals were found to be living inside the garage of residence of Renald Baldacchino, located on Triq il-Mejjilla in Qormi.

Baldacchino, aged 38, was refused bail after pleading not guilty to arresting, slightly injuring and threatening Pierre Sammut in the aforementioned garage.  He was also charged with the possession of stolen items and complicity in an aggravated theft.

Lawyer Noel Bianco, who was representing the accused, requested bail, arguing that Baldacchino, who collaborated with officers, was merely looking out for those who were in need, given the growing rents prices on the island.

The prosecution, who was represented by Inspectors Shaun Friggieri and Roderick Agius, objected given that the accused was already on bail on separate charges issued five months ago.

The court, presided by magistrate Audrey Demicoli, sided with the prosecution and rejected the bail request.
