A 50-year-old Romanian jailed for operating unauthorised gambling operation

A 50-year-old Romanian national from Qawra has been jailed for three months after pleading guilty to operating an unauthorised gambling operation.

Adrian Rusu was charged with having, on 4 September and the days preceding this date, operated or participated in unauthorised gambling, and with having used unlicensed premises for gambling activities and having been involved in illegal betting.

He was also charged with damaging police property while being held under arrest at a police station.

Rusu pleaded guilty to the charges brought against him, and was sentenced to a prison term of three months.

Magistrate Yana Micallef Stafrace presided.

Lawyer Victor Bugeja was legal aid for the accused.

Inspector Daryl Borg prosecuted.
