Nurses, midwives, physiotherapists and ECG Technicians received a number of citations which did not make any sense over the past days, the Malta Union for Midwives and Nurses (MUMN) has said.
Government recently announced that the contractor who handles vehicle parking at Mater Dei Hospital changed, the MUMN said while adding that it expected the situation to change slightly for the better, "but the opposite occurred."
The MUMN said that there is no control over who can park and who can't. "A number of people who are not entitled to park in staff parking areas are going in freely, taking up spots of employees." The MUMN said that it is very difficult to find parking unless you head to work an hour and a half early.
Instead of the contractor tackling the issue so that employees would find a place to park, they started issuing citations randomly, the union said. The MUMN said that in order to make a few euros, the contractor has changed the regulations without advising the employees.
The MUMN said it would not expect this from government and the hospital management. "We did not expect that government's lower rates for public parking would be taken from the MUMN members through a system being abused."
The MUMN appealed to government and hospital management to urgently solve the situation, and said that if this does not happen, it will organise a protest in the roads around Mater Dei Hospital.
