Champions Valletta continued with their recovery as they eased past Premier newcomers Qormi to register a second consecutive win.
A first half strike by Bojan Kaljevic and early second half goals from Miguel Alba (penalty) and Mario Fontanella seemed to have assured them of the three points, but Kaljevic and Fontanella scored a second goal each and substitute Gavrila also added his name to the scorers' list as the citizens triumphed 6-0.
Valletta continued where they had left last week in the 3-0 win against Birkirkara, even if they had to wait till the second half to make sure of their convincing win.
The first half saw a complete dominance by the champions as they launched one attack after another.
When they opened the score on 14 minutes, I thought it was the start of a goal avalanche, but despite their total superiority, they found it hard to get past the amassed Qormi defence, so much so that they never really tested goalie Azzopardi again till the 30th minute.
From then on, Valletta increased their pressure and had some good efforts at the Qormi goal, but they still failed to add another goal before the interval whistle.
In the second half, it was a completely different story. After Valletta doubled their lead through an Alba penalty and then scored a third soon after, the match was as good as over.
Qormi never offered any serious resistance and the citizens scored another three goals for a second consecutive win.
Valletta took the lead on the 14th minute when a Miguel Alba fine cross found Bojan Kaljevic who headed home past a helpless Azzopardi.
The citizens struggled to get past the Qormi defence, but on 33 minutes, from a fine Piciollo cross, Alba saw his first timer just missing the target with goalie Azzopardi beaten.
Moments later, it was Piciollo who went close and in the 40th minute, Mario Fontanella found the net with a header, but he was rightly ruled offside.
Before the interval, Alba tested Azzopardi, but the goalie managed to turn to corner.
Soon after, from an Alba cross, Fontanella saw his header going over.
Valletta were awarded a penalty in the 57th minute when goalie Azzopardi floored Fontanella and from the spotkick, Alba made no mistake to make it 2-0.
It was 3-0 in the 60th minute when following a cross by Alba, the ball arrived at Fontanella's feet, who made no mistake with an excellent rising shot.
The fourth goal arrived in the 72nd minute when a Piciollo effort beat the onrushing goalie Azzopardi, and there was Kaljevic to flick the ball into an empty net.
With nine minutes to go, Fontanella scored his and Valletta's fifth goal after receiving a good pass from Kaljevic.
The sixth arrived in the 88th minute. It was substitute Bogdan Gavrila who received a fine pass from Piciollo, beat his direct defender and scored with a fine volley.
