A 75th minute penalty saved swieqi yesterday against Mqabba who were close to obtain their first victory. In the end Mqabba had to settle for yet another draw in this extremely balanced start to the season.

Swieqi had a good start with olowoyo in the spotlight being their most dangerous player. He was unlucky too when he hit the crossbar. Against the run of play Mqabba took the lead on 18 minutes when Micallef passed to unmarked Dario Aquilina who easily slotted home from close range.

On the resumption Mqabba were the better and pushed forward for the second goal, but now it was Swieqi's time to obtain the equakliser in Mqabba's best patch. Jake Scerri was floored by Gomes and Ion Alin Margarit fired home from the penalty spot.

Swieqi almost snatched a late winner but Margarit's effort missed the upright by a whisker.

Marsa-San Gwann     1-0

Marsa: K. Brincat, S. Darmanin, M. Busuttil, N. Moyck, R. Da Fex Marriaga, C. Cassar (E. Grech 89'), E. Cutajar, W. Chircop (M. Gauci 50'), N. Anthony Micallef, A. Agius, L. Chiedozie.

Referee: Ishmael Barbara

Scorer: Lawrence Chidozie 11'

Lawrence Chidozie scored the all important winner for Marsa on eleven minutes to give the Redblues their first victory of the season. On the other hands for San Gwann this was the second successive defeat as they remain the only team in this division still in search of their first point.

Marsa fully deserved their victory even though Chiedozie's winner came after a good start from San Gwann. The match continued to produce fast football and goalmouth actions came at regular intervals with Cassar missing a sitter for Marsa before the break.

In the second period San Gwann tried to obtain the equaliser but Marsa had several attempts that could have killed the match and were unlucky four minutes from time when a Mark Gauci scorcher finished against the crossbar.
