Partit Demokratiku today strongly deplored the unacceptable words used by Tony Zarb in respect of the assassination of Daphne Caruana Galizia.
His comments, PD said in a statement, are also an echo of the general misogyny and intentionally disparaging comments about female protesters, meant to fuel hatred and possibly persecution through social media amongst others. He deliberately did this on the eve of a protest against domestic violence and its victims.
Zarb, who said "the important thing is that Daphne will not return", is paid by the public purse as an advisor in the country’s government and this behaviour becomes even more despicable. His retraction is too late and without credence. This government boasts of being all-inclusive. And on this matter, we have to agree that this statement is true: it is truly inclusive also of hatred, prejudice and misogyny.
Partit Demokratiku also shows its complete agreement and support towards Paul Borg Olivier’s second request to Her Excellency, The President of Malta, to strip Zarb of the Ġieħ ir-Repubblika he was awarded last year. He did not deserve that accolade then, more so now that he has once more verbally attacked women for their beliefs, PD said.
