The police were not informed about fires which were taking place in Siggiewi quarries over the past weeks.

Residents contacting this newsroom sent footage of one such fire, saying that such fires have been taking place at night over the past few weeks.

One Zebbug resident said that the locality was affected by a heavy smell of burning over four days. “I believe the smoke to be harmful to one's health,” the resident said.

It is unclear why the fires are taking place.

The police, asked if they had received any information over the past two weeks, said: “Over the past 2 weeks the Police did not receive any reports related to fires in Siggiewi”
