Two goals in the late stages of the game enabled Hibernians to beat St Andrews yesterday as they returned to winning form after last week's defeat against Gzira.

A strike from Correa Marcolino two minutes from the end and another by Jurgen Degabriele in added time secured all the three points for the Paolites.

It was Hibs' third victory in their opening five matches, while for St Andrews it was their 4th consecutive defeat.

Hibs mentor Stefano Sanderra, who was suspended for this match, made two changes from the team which lost to Gzira as Johann Bezzina and Ivan Blazevic were replaced by Dunstan Vella and Taylon Correa.

Joseph Farrugia and Amoy Brown were back in the Saints' starting line-up, replacing Matthew Woo Ling and Kevyn Mcfarlane.

It was a match which never reached great heights with the Paolites enjoying more possession, but creating too little before they eventually scored those two late goals to secure their win.

St Andrews concentrated mainly on defence, but were bitterly disappointed to lose the match in the final moments.

The Paolites took the early initiative and on 11 minutes, Hibernians they had an excellent opportunity to take the lead through a shot by Jurgen Degabriele. Taylon Correa failed to connect from close range and Tiago Adan Fonseca hit the foot of the upright.

Later, Fonseca went close with a diagonal shot from the left which just missed the post six minutes from the end of the first half.

In the second half, there was hardly any shot at goal as both sides were rarely given any chance to have a pot at goal by the two respective defences.

St Andrews' first action in this match arrived on 79 minutes when following a personal action, Kemar Reid saw his shot being saved by Hibs goalie Andrew Hogg.

However in the 88th minute, the Paolites took the lead when off a cross by substitute Guttiner Heider Costa Tenorio, Taylon Nicolas Correa Marcolino's found the net with an acrobatic effort.

One minute into added time, Jurgen Degabriele made sure of his side's win as he doubled the score when he received an assist on the left, rounded the goalkeeper and placed the ball in the empty net.
