“Keep your hands off Tony Zarb! ” he told the applauding audience.

Carachi’s speech comes after the PN presented a parliamentary motion calling for the removal of the Gieh ir-Repubblika award that had been awarded to Zarb after comments the latter made on slain journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia.

In his address, Carachi spoke of the progress and challenges the union confronted in its 75-year history, while also pointing to what he described as improvements in the fields of pensions and civil liberties; and innovations in fields like blockchain.

Adding that there are growing issues with regards to the increases in property prices, he said the GWU will continue to work to find solutions to todays and tomorrows problems.

He called for the creation of a single entity which will oversee a long term strategic plan that will involve and have the consensus of all the partners within the MCESD; and also involve significant financing from the EU Commission.
