A match which will be remembered as a bad advert for local football was the one played at the Victor Tedesco Stadium between Hamrun Spartans and Sliema Wanderers. A goalless draw in an action less match.

The Spartans were out to gain ground following their last defeat to Tarxien and a goalless draw against Mosta. The Wanderers dropped their only points in a defeat to Gzira whereas in their last outing they beat Tarxien 3-1.

Hamrun had goalkeeper Manuel Bartolo suspended who was sent off in their last showing and Sliema midfielder Ryan Fenech who was missing out his last match through suspension.

Both coaches made changes to their starting formation with Hamrun starting with Caruana, Ganci and Priso instead of Schembri, Monticelli and Marra. On the other hand Mucciardi and Marzouk were given a starting berth instead of Temile and Xuereb.

The first half was rather dull with neither team dominating and play purely restricted to the midfield sector. In fact both goalkeepers were spectators with neither team having a shot at goal.

The second half started on the same pattern of the first forty five minutes with defensive play being the order of the day. Play was characterised with rough tackles and a number of bookings with the forwards frustrated not getting the supply that they desired.

Six minutes from time came the first shot at goal by Mark Scerri which was saved by goalkeeper Cini. And in  the 90th minute off a Mucciardi free kick Biancardi's header was saved by Cini.

It was a match that Sliema, Hamrun and moreover the supporters that were present want to forget sooner rather than later.
