Nationalist MP Stephen Spiteri is to face a formal inquiry by the Medical Council over dodgy medical certificates, following an investigation by Lovin Malta last year, the website reports.
A public hearing on the issue is to take place on 15 October. The Medical Council has decided to proceed with the inquiry which could result in Spiteri being struck off the medical register.
Patients needing a medical certificate were reported to have left their details and €5 with at a pharmacy and the certificate was issued without their being a medical examination.
"After receiving the information in relation to Dr Spiteri the Medical Council Malta has initiated its preliminary examination of the matter under review and has subsequently referred the matter for the necessary proceedings according to law,” the Medical Council told Lovin Malta. These proceedings refer to a full inquiry under the Health Care Professions Act.
Spiteri is the shadow minister for health. So far the PN has not taken any action.
