A penalty scored by Ogunnupe sixteen minutes from time Vittoriosa grabbed their first win of the season, condemning Swieqi to the third successive defeat.

The result is rather harsh on the newly promoted Swieqi who are now finding the going hard after a promising start. Swieqi had the better chances yesterday, hitting the post on two instances, and also missing a penalty eatly in the second half, a penalty that could have turned the tide in their favour.

This was the second penalty missed by Swieqi, after missing a stoppage time one in the derby against Pembroke, with Swieqi also finishing the game with ten men.

For Vittoriosa it was a mucch needed victory that lifts them from the lower places in the standings, even though Robert Cassar’s side is still very away from the best form.

What a derby ! Mqabba scored three goals in the space of seven minutes in the final minutes of the game to beat neighbours Qrendi in a highly spectacular match

The match started with a heavy delay, as apparently the referee was given another kick-off time instead of the scheduled 5.15pm.

Well the wait was more than worth it as this derby proved to be a real thriller. Qrendi scored two goals inside the opening quarter of the match and looked set for an easy win.

Mqabba however never gave up hope, especially in the second half, even though theyr missed a penalty on 51 minutes. But Mqabba’s pressure gave its reward as Clive Mizzi’s boys scored three goals in the space of a magical seven-minute spell to land victory.
