The Ministry for Foreign Affairs and Trade Promotion said that Stephen Sultana has been appointed as the new Chairman of Trade Malta.

Trade Malta is a public-private partnership between the Government of Malta and the Malta Chamber of Commerce, Enterprise and Industry dedicated to helping Malta-based businesses go international. Trade Malta offers a range of services tailored to the needs of companies that are planning to make that first step into the world of internationalisation, from assessing the markets to honing their product. Trade Malta also provides specialised training programmes in international business development and marketing, administers a number of incentives schemes and internationalisation programmes, and promotes worldwide business opportunities.

Sultana has over 20 years’ experience related to international trade and investment and has occupied various senior positions in both the public and private sectors. He also provided advisory and consulting services related to international business to various companies and organisations in Malta and abroad.

Sultana graduated with a B.A. (Hons) from the University of Malta in 1986 and an M.B.A. from the University of Bath in 1988. He started his career with Malta’s national investment promotion agency formerly known as the Malta Development Corporation (MDC) and later joined the Malta External Trade Corporation (METCO) where he served as General Manager/CEO for several years before leaving the organization to join the private sector. In 2006 he joined Simonds Farsons Cisk plc as Head of International Business, responsible for spearheading the company’s internationalisation drive. Sultana has served as a Director on Trade Malta Ltd since its inception.

On behalf of the Government of Malta, the Ministry would like to thank David Curmi, previous Chairman of Trade Malta, for the sterling work that he has carried out over the past few years, to ensure Trade Malta’s long-term success, based on a clearly-defined vision, mission, and set of goals.
