One minute silence was observed in memory of slain journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia at the opening of a conference held by the Office of the President in Verdala.

Addressing the attendees, President Marie Louise Coleiro Preca said she wanted to commemorate Caruana Galizia on the first anniversary of her assassination.

“Before I start my opening remarks, I would like us to observe a few moments of silence, as we recall the atrocious murder of journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia, a year ago today.

“Such an occasion is a stark reminder that we have to continue to strive to safeguard freedom of thought and expression at all times,” the President said.
