Partit Demokratiku said has persistently voiced its opinion that the brutal murder of journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia requires an effective and independent public inquiry and investigation.
Up to this day government has failed to honour its obligations and duties so that the person behind her execution be found. Partit Demokratiku noted that government has instead dragged its feet and politically interfered with institutions that should have operated independently, resulting in doubtful and fruitless investigative attempts.
PD also noted that Opposition Leader Dr Adrian Delia shares the burden of political responsibility along with government in creating a political climate that was instrumental to weaken and isolate Daphne Caruana Galizia.
The murder of the country’s foremost investigative journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia and the behaviour of the government thereafter, imply a deliberate direct attack on the delicate checks and balances of our democracy, notably the media, which is the bulwark of free speech and expression, PD said.
