The wreath laid by Opposition Leader Adrian Delia at the makeshift memorial dedicated to Daphne Caruana Galizia in Valletta was put aside during yesterday’s manifestation and covered by a poster with the journalist’s last words.
Before yesterday evening’s vigil, Delia had placed the wreath with the words “Kap tal-Opposizzjoni” against the hoarding covering the Great Siege Monument, which has been used by Daphne’s followers as a tribute to the journalist since her assassination on 16 October 2017.
But, during the vigil held on the first anniversary of her killing, the wreath was put to the side and the words “Kap tal-Opposizzjoni” were removed and replaced by a poster with Daphne’s last words: “There are crooks everywhere you look now. The situation is desperate.”
Delia was a target for the journalist in his run-up to become Nationalist Party leader, and had instituted libel proceedings against Caruana Galizia, which he withdrew after her killing.
