Santa Lucija consolidated their top position in the standings with a hard earned win over bottom of the table side San Gwann, who are still in search of their first point of the season. It was an exciting encounter with Santa Lucija dominating the first half and scoring three goals in the process.

Santa Lucija looked set for an easy win as apart from the three goals scored they were playing some really good football with Anter Rosero and Paiber in splendid form. However San Gwann managed to pull one back seven minutes from the break, and this goal changed the match.

On the resumption San Gwann made three substitutions and scored another goal through Alan Borg, as now the poutcome of the match was wide open. San Gwann even hit the upright, but tired out near the end and in stoppage time Santa Lucija sealed it with a fourth goal.

Swieqi U-Zebbug R          3-4

Referee: Matthew Degabriele

Scorers: Ryan Micallef 4’ (Z), Caetano Da Silva 9’ pen, 88’ (Z), Ion-Alin Margarit 38’ (S), Clive Brincat 45’ pen (Z), Ibrahim Salis 58’, 70’ (S)

A late header scored by Caetano Da Silva settled this pulsating clash between Zebbug Rangers and Swieqi United. For Zebbug this was the second win of the season as they move in the upper half of the table, and on the other hand this was the fourth consecutive defeat suffered by the newly promoted Swieqi, who yesterday surely deserved something more, at least for their never say die attitude.

Zebbug looked set to dominate this match scoring two early goals trhough Ryan Micallef and a Caetano Da Silva penalty. Swieqi however pulled one back with a Margarit header, but just before the break Zebbug once again built a two-goal cushion with a Clive Brincat header.

This goal should have settled it for Zebbug, but Swieqi had other ideas as they stormed forward in the second half in search of the equaliser. They did manage to obtain the equaliser with a brace from Ibrahim Salis, and they even pushed for a dramatic winner with Zebbug in apparent difficulty.

But two minutes from time Zebbug scored the winner again through Cateano Da Silva to send Swieqi home once again empty handed.
