Qormi Daikin HC took a trip up to Messina to compete in the second edition of the International Mediterranean Cup, as part of the final preparations for the upcoming season. This event was hosted by Cus Unime at their impressive sports complex.

The Yellows travelled with a strong 20-player squad, with a few promising youths in the mix for a valuable experience.

Qormi Daikin HC took on CUS Unime in the first match, taking a two-goal lead through Z. De Giovanni and Captain S. Tanti. Cus Unime managed to get one back in the final quarter, but Qormi held on to close off to match and earn their first victory.

The second match of the day saw Qormi face off against a younger PU Messina side, with Qormi finding little resistance to their attacking efforts, sailing into an easy 5-0 win, with a brace from J. Pace, D. Ellul, K. Bajada and S. Tanti.

The next day saw Qormi Daikin take on PU Messina once again, and although the Yellows dominated throughout, they could only get two goals to show for their efforts.  The final deciding match of the tournament against Cus Unime saw a similar showing to the first one, with another 2-1 win for Qormi HC with goals by K. Calleja and L. Bajada giving the team a two-goal cushion before being pegged back in the final quarter. The last few minutes of the match provided a thrilling flurry of chances for both teams, with Cus Unime going all-out for the equalizer, and Qormi HC breaking away with fast-paced counter attacks.

Qormi Daikin were presented with the 1st place trophy, with top scorer Jonathan Pace collecting it.

Qormi Daikin HC will now face Floriana Youngstars HC in the Super Cup Final this Sunday, an important match as Qormi strive to win all four domestic club competitions for the second year running.
