Challenge Cup  Group A

Lightshop Hotsticks   3   Rabat Depiro 1    Umpires   Nathan Galea    Glen Bonello

Hotsticks won no less than nine penalty corners in the first half but due to some slack finishing, coupled with a number of saves by the Rabat Custodian they only managed to score an equalising goal five minutes before the half time whistle blew.   In fact Rabat went ahead in the 17th minutes when Shawn Dimech scored as a result of a penalty corner action.  Hotsticks reacted immediately and went close on a couple of occasions  but Rabat used their usual tactics, depending on their solid back line and using the counter attack as their offensive weapon.   Hotsticks drew level on 30 minutes when Ryan Dalli netted as a result of a penalty corner action, the half time whistle blowing with the contest level at 1 - 1.

Hotsticks started brightly in the second half and went 2 - 1 up in the 43rd minute through a Chris Agius effort.   T o their credit, Rabat never gave up but  Hotsticks further increased their lead when Silas Plaehn, after  dribbling down the flank, crossed to the far post where Julian Zahra  pushed home to give his team a 3 -1 lead which they held until the final whistle blew.

Ghaqda Gurnalisti Sport  Super Cup Final

Floriana Young Stars   2     Qormi Daikin   4      Umpires   Robert Aquilina   Shawn Mifsud

True to form encounters between these two teams always produce unpredictable twists and turns which add to the excitement of the game.    Qormi went ahead on 7 minutes through a Zachary Degiovanni effort when both defences were still settling down and although Young Stars reacted strongly they were not able to break Qormi's strangle hold in mid field.   On 22 minutes Ayrton Falzon grabbed Qormi's second and five minutes later he scored his second and Qormi's third giving his team a comfortable 3- 0 at half time.

Still on top during the early part of the second half, Qormi were pegged back when on 44 minutes Luke Borg Costanzi hit a bombshell on the rise into the net from the top of the D.   On 53 minutes Justin Farrugia netted Young Stars' second picking up the pieces as a result of a melee in front of goal.   Both teams then threw caution to the wind with defences opening up but on 60 minutes Zachary Degiovanni scored his second goal hooking home from close range, as a result of a penalty corner, to give Qormi a 4 - 2 lead which they maintained up till the end of the match crowning them as Super Cup winners.
