12 tonnes of cannabis resin, 542 kg of cannabis grass, 7kg of cocaine have been seized so far in 2018.

The cannabis resin haul included the 10 tonnes, or a market value of €28.5 million found hidden inside four shipping containers last September by the Customs Department.

The figures, which were revealed by Home Affairs Minister Michael Farrugia when answering a parliamentary question tabled by Opposition MP Beppe Fenech Adami, also indicated that 246 ecstasy pills, 14g of Crack Cocaine, 107 cannabis joints, 20g of magic mushrooms, 24g of ketamine, 96g of MDMA, 88 LSD tabs, 3.5g of amphetamines, and 20g of non-scheduled synthetic powders were also seized by Police and Customs officers.

In 2017, 320 kg of cocaine, 84 kg of cannabis, excluding the record 550kg cannabis haul on 13 October 2017, and 13 kg of heroin were seized.

A notable reduction is the drastic drop in seized tramadol pills, an opioid analgesic (painkiller), with 0 finds this year compared to the 96.8 million tablets and 36 million tablets seized in 2017 and 2016 respectively.

Another PQ tabled by Fenech Adami and answered by Farrugia revealed that there had been 70 cases of found drugs or prohibited medicines at Corradino Correctional Facility as of September 2018, up from the 60 recorded in 20167.
