At around 3:15pm the police were informed that their assistance was needed in Louis Wettinger Street in Mellieha.

In a statement the police said that after  preliminary investigation a 78 year old man who resides in Mellieha lost control of his Toyota Hilux and crashed into a tree.

An ambulance took the man to Mater Dei hospital for further treatment. Later he was certified as suffering from grievous injuries.

Police investigation is still on going.
