Adrian Delia is “here to stay,” a spokesperson for the Nationalist Party said. 

The PN told Times of Malta that reports that the party leader was “thinking of a dignified exit” were untrue. 

On Sunday, Malta Today reported that some of Delia’s key allies were mulling an exit for the party, who is currently facing a request for separation by his wife. Delia last week said his family was going through a difficult time and asked for their privacy to be respected. 

A message leaked by Malta Today which was sent to Delia’s wife Nickie Vella de Fremeaux from Nationalist MP Hermann Schiavone in which he said “You have to decide. You either support Adrian like us, or else we discuss a dignified exit for him”.

When asked about the story on Monday afternoon, Delia did not comment, saying that he would only be willing to answer questions about the day’s activity – a meeting with members of the Malta Motorsport Federation. 

He invited those present at the PN headquarters in Pieta to submit questions through the party spokesman.

During the meeting with the MMF, Delia expressed disappointment at what he called the lack of importance to sustain sport in the 2019 budget, pointing out that Malta’s mild climate could be used as a good platform to attract sports tourism for outdoor events. He also insisted that apart from giving financial support to Maltese athletes doing well on an international scale, the government could also allocate money to construct facilities.

Motorsport Federation President Tonio Cini noted that a proper track would benefit other organizations, pointing out that in spite of there being no official place to practice, Maltese drivers were obtaining good results in international competitions.

Should they be granted land to construct a racing track, Cini said that they could host other events such as cycling competitions which they have had talks on already.
