Structural engineering firm Periti Studio has taken the initiative to design a concept proposal for a race track in Malta which takes up no ODZ land.
In a Facebook post, Periti Studio insisted they were not commissioned by any government entity to take part in this proposal. They also stressed that this plan has not been approved.
The proposed area in the Hal Far industrial estate will include space for drag racing, circuit racing and go-karting. They said the area is being proposed because apart from being outside ODZ land it does not cause any issues to neighbouring residences.
The proposed track is 2km long and is suited to both cars and motorbikes, which will share facilities with the already existing quarter mile race track in the vicinity. The track includes runoff areas (safe zones) at the corners with a proposed runoff in gravel, and soft landscaping respectively.
Just last Monday, Leader of the Opposition, Adrian Delia met with members of the Malta Motorsport Federation expressing his disappointment at what he called the lack of importance to sustain sport in the 2019 budget, pointing out that Malta’s mild climate could be used as a good platform to attract sports tourism for outdoor events.
Motorsports enthusiasts have been left disappointed several times after being promised the race track in past by different governments.
