There seems to be no stoping to Zejtun's series of dismal as they yesterday suffered their third defeat of the season, this time against Gudja who scored the all important winner early in the second half.

Now under the guidance of Orosco Anonam, Zejtun still failed to lift themselves even though they arguably played of their best matches so far this season. But once again they lacked punch upfront, and when they went behind they just could not get back to level terms, even though they played their hearts out.

Gudja are now in third place with Zebbug and with a good sight of the promotion places. It was a hard earned victory yesterday, thanks to Marshall's great header who headed home a Jackson Lima freekick, and to some solid defending, with the same Marshall really unbeatable at times.

Scorers: Patrick Teixeira Maia 55' (SL), Moacir De Rosa Wilmsen 74' (P)

League leaders Santa Lucia were yesterday blocked by ten-man Pembroke in an exciting match, with most of the drama coming in the second part. Sant Lucija held the initiative for long stretches in the first half but had nothing or little to show by the half way mark

Ten minutes into the second half Santa Lucia broke the deadlock with Teixeira Maia low drive, and two minutes later Pembroke were down to ten men when captain Mifsud Triganza received the marching orders.

Santa Lucia tried to kill the match with a second goal and hit the woodwork and also had a ball cleared off the goal  line, but fourteen minutes from time substitute De Rosa Wilmsen stunned a plucky Santa Lucia defence.

The late Santa Lucia siege was not enough as Pembroke held on for a precious point.

Marsa-Zebbug R               0-0

Marsa: K. Brincat, N. Mocyk, L. Friggieri (C. Cardona 66'), M. Gauci, S. Darmanin, A. Sreti, E. Cutajar, N. Micallef, A. Agius, R. Gafa, L. Chiedozie (R. De Fex Marriaga 70').

Żebbuġ R: J. Borg, D. Fava, R. Vella, H. Vella, D. Pace, A. Curmi, T. Rodrigo, C. Brincat, J. Caetano Da Silva, R. Micallef (S. Buhagiar 51'), J. Farrugia (N. Lahrach 65').

Referee: Alex Johnson

A defensive minded Marsa side proved a point yesterday holding the more fancied Zebbug side to a scorless draw. It must be said that it was a deserved draw for Marsa, who near the end of the game were saved by two outstanding interventions from their goalkeeper Keith Brincat.

Zebbug had long possession of the ball in the first half, but could not get past a very organised Marsa side. In the second half the match was more balanced as Marsa had a good opening fifteen minutes, and some attempts at goal too.

Zebbug piled the pressure in the dying minutes of the game but could not beat the Marsa custodian and had to settle for a draw, dropping two precious points points and losing the opportunity to join Sirens in second place in the standings.
